Lagos Life Nepo Baby vs LAPO Baby: What Each Start Gives You
Where the names come from: "Nepo baby" vs "LAPO baby" began as a Nigerian social media meme about privilege. LAPO is a Nigerian microfinance bank known for small loans, so a "LAPO baby" is someone who started with little (Guardian Nigeria explainer). Lagos Life turns the meme into its birth lottery.
Every new Sim in Lagos Life goes through the "birth lottery" and comes out as either a Nepo Baby or a LAPO Baby. Here's exactly what each start gives you, based on the game's own data, and how to play each one well.
Nepo Baby vs LAPO Baby: side by side
| 👶🏾💰 Nepo Baby | 🏦 LAPO Baby | |
|---|---|---|
| Tagline | "Daddy knows people." | "Self-made hits different." |
| Starting cash | ₦500,000 pocket money | ₦60,000 LAPO loan on top of your home's starting money: ₦76,000 in Mushin or ₦96,000 in Yaba |

| Home | Fully furnished Lekki Phase 1 mini-flat, with Daddy paying the ₦17,000/week rent | Mushin (₦2,400/week) or Yaba (₦6,000/week), and you pay the rent. Lekki is locked at the start. |
| Transport | Daddy's Toyota Prado: you only pay for fuel | No car: trek, keke, danfo, okada or cab until you can buy one |

| If you land in the cell | You can "Call Daddy". He pays the bail, but keeps your rent help until it's paid back. He only answers once a week. | Pay the fine or bail, wait it out, or have another player pay your bail |
From the Lagos Life web game, checked 4 October 2026. The "starts self-made" fallback doesn't appear to include the LAPO loan or skill perks according to the game code. That's still to be confirmed in-game.
Playing a Nepo Baby
- You start rich in cash flow, not just cash. No rent, no loan, a ₦15,000/shift job and ₦500,000. You can afford a POS Stand (₦500,000) on day one, though spending it all leaves no cushion.
- Climb the bank ladder. The next promotions are Executive Director (₦25,500/shift, needs Charisma 5) and MD/CEO (₦48,000/shift, needs Charisma 7), each at 100% performance.
- Don't lean on Daddy. If he pays your bail, you pay the ₦17,000 Lekki rent yourself until the bail is paid back, and Lekki isn't eviction-proof if you fall 2+ weeks behind.
- Want a different career? You can switch, but you start the new career at level 1 and lose the Branch Manager pay.
Playing a LAPO Baby
- Budget your week: rent plus the ₦12,000 loan payment comes to ₦14,400/week in Mushin or ₦18,000/week in Yaba until the loan is cleared.
- Use your Hustle head start. Hustle 2 already meets the level 2 promotion requirement in Trading, Hairstyling and Event Planning. Learning 25% faster helps every later promotion.
- Get a job on day one. The best level 1 pay is Banking (₦4,200/shift). Compare all of them on the jobs page.
- Fill gaps with gigs: Help at the Buka (₦700) and Carry Load at Balogun (₦900) need no skill. WhatsApp Hustle scales with your Hustle. See side gigs.
- Clear the loan, then build. Once LAPO is paid off, put spare cash toward a POS Stand and then a Buka.
Which starting home: Mushin or Yaba?
LAPO Babies choose between two homes. Here's how they compare with the loan included:
| Home | Game label | Rent / week | Start cash (with loan) | Rent + loan / week | Size | Max guests |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mushin Face-me-I-face-you | Hard start | ₦2,400 | ₦76,000 | ₦14,400 | 6×6 | 3 |
| Yaba Self-contain | Balanced | ₦6,000 | ₦96,000 | ₦18,000 | 7×7 | 5 |
- Mushin (Face-me-I-face-you): the cheapest weekly bill and the safest choice, since eviction always sends players to Mushin. The game labels it a "Hard start", and living there gives a small mood penalty ("Tight room, noisy neighbours") until enough decor turns it into a "Fine House".
- Yaba (Self-contain): more starting cash, a bigger room and more guests, which helps if you want to host friends. The weekly bill is ₦3,600 higher, and falling 2+ weeks behind on rent gets you moved to Mushin.
Nepo Babies skip this step and move straight into the Lekki Phase 1 mini-flat.
Nepo vs LAPO FAQ
Can I choose Nepo Baby or LAPO Baby in Lagos Life?
No. It's a "birth lottery": the game decides during character creation. The game says it's decided once for your account, and starting a new life won't change it.
What are the odds of getting Nepo Baby?
The game doesn't show the odds. The result comes from the game's server, so we can't confirm a percentage. Treat any number you see online with caution.
Can a LAPO Baby live in Lekki?
Not at the start. When a LAPO Baby picks a home, the game greys out the Lekki flat with the line "With LAPO money? 😂 Work your way here." You can move to a bigger home later. The Ikoyi Duplex (₦250,000/week) and Banana Island Mansion (₦1,500,000/week) are move-in-only homes for later.
What happens if I can't repay the LAPO loan?
LAPO collects ₦12,000 every 7 days. If you don't have it, the officer comes knocking and 10% of that week's payment is added to your debt as a penalty. You can also repay early. Once the full ₦72,000 is paid, you're debt-free.
Should I make a new account to get Nepo Baby?
We don't recommend it. The game's Terms say one person, one account, and extra accounts used to vote more than once or dodge bans aren't allowed. A LAPO start is very playable. See the LAPO tips above.
